BIO

A self taught artist based in Berlin, I was born in South Africa and started in portraiture work, advertising and fashion. I create large scale mixed media art and photographic portraiture for private commissions, key actors, musicians and celebrities, along with video installation.

My commercial work has been widely published internationally and a selection of publications include NY Times Magazine, Architectural Digest, iD, Wallpaper*, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, GQ, The Guardian and Mirror Newspaper Groups.

My art and portraits are represented in private and corporate collections internationally. Pieces have been included in limited shows at the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Louvre in Paris, along with portraiture included in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Ma (間) of psychological space is the pond in which I contemplate the reflection of existence. Through the moments of space in between we negotiate the complex self and the chaos around us, from which experience emerges to reflect the world, not as it is, but as we are.

My process starts with a photographic print which is transferred onto pre-worked wood or metal with adhesive, sometimes under painting the image in white emulsion. When dry the paper is rubbed back and the image is further developed with paint, ink or other mediums.

With the artwork as a quiet point, I want the viewer’s many lives timeline to collapse in to a moment, creating a space for the observer to linger and see, feel, be.
